MI Fall 2020 Financial Update

Missourians continue to be generous in the midst of the pandemic. As of July 1, the Mozambique Initiative has received $487,094.03. For comparison, in recent years the mid-year total has been as follows:

2019: $318,902.50
2018: $243,495.45
2017: $503,480.24
2016: $275,709.00

This year’s funds have proven especially important: Your gifts helped provide emergency food when supply chains were interrupted; construct hand washing stations, first at Chicuque Hospital and then at clinics and churches beyond; and continue the work of drilling wells, even though materials and labor became difficult to find. In short, as needs have increased, faithful churches and donors have looked for ways to continue to walk together with our sisters and brothers in Mozambique.

However, we still have the last half of 2020 ahead of us, and it might prove more difficult. As the pandemic continues, so do the needs. All three Mozambican Conferences have prioritized public health. You can find more information on how to give directly to that need on our projects page. We will be directing our Giving Tuesday offering to this cause.

Another emerging need involves the pastors. Offerings have been interrupted, and some pastors have few funds. The majority of funding for pastoral salaries comes from the annual $990 contribution from Missouri churches. Those funds, given in honor of your sister church, are then distributed to pastors and churches in need across the country.
