The day has come! Jeff Baker, Nate Berneking and I are in Washington DC and are mentally preparing for the long journey ahead of us. We're feeling all sorts of emotions. From excitement, a little scared, already missing family, and looking forward to see our brothers and sisters in Mozambique.
My travels will start in Maputo for the Roundtable Meeting, where those Annual Conferences of the Methodist Church who are working in partnership with Mozambique will join together for this once every three-year meeting. I'm looking forward to meeting new friends in Christ who are passionate for Mozambique who are from all across the world.
Then, I will get to travel with Ezequiel across Mozambique, far and wide. Our travels will take us from Maputo West, Massinga, Ngongane, Chicuque, the Center of Hope, Pembe, Nampula, Gondola, Chimoio, and Beira. If you google-map these locations, it is an impressive amount of distance I will cover. The work of MI is far and wide. Whether our safe water projects, training pastors, thriving congregations, dynamic leaders, sustainability/microfinance projects -- the work of the Church here is vast.
My knowledge of Mozambique and our partnership with their Church will only grow in these next few weeks. So will my appreciation for the Mozambican church, culture. I pray that my heart remain open, ready to experience and share the love of Christ with my friends in Mozambique. I have a grateful heart for the hard work that my predecessors have done to lay the path for the Mozambique Initiative.
Depending on my internet capability, I will do my best to blog, posting some brief thoughts, what I experienced, and hopefully some photos. Please pray for our travels. I'm leaving the country I love with a humble heart, to enter a country that has changed my life. I hope, pray, and believe it is able to change so many more -- here in Missouri and in Mozambique.
